So I"m putting in brand-new plugs ideal now...need to space them come the exactly specs.I"ve acquired a couple different gap numbers to walk by. My Haynes/Chiltons says .062-.068. Climate I"ve likewise seen various numbers on various forums. The plugs ns bought room Autolite Platinum AP5144. Right currently the plugs room gapped at about .048.So those who have actually a factory publication that states what the space should be, please post it. Together a reminder...my van is an "01 4.0L SOHC.THANKS!!ShaneEDIT: WHOOPS!! Looks like I"m logged in on mine brother"s account!!
I simply put those plugs in mine a couple of months ago. Initially, the van ran beautiful, however now is starting to idle rough. Just has around 5,000 miles on them. Someone called me the broad gap is make them last 100,000 miles. The sticker under mine hood said .062-.068. It was recommended to me to go v around.054 and also replace them around 40,000 miles. BUT, choose I said, i don"t choose the method the truck idles now, so ns will most likely pull them this summer and replace with Motorcraft dbl plats.
I can"t mental if this applies to the 4.0L or not, however the 3.0L mentions double-platinums because one bank is "reverse" firing, tip to electrode instead of electrode come tip.I can"t watch a factor to gap them any type of other method than stated by the decal under the hood.
yeah i"d just space em in between .062" and also .068". If you much much less (like .048" for example) girlfriend *might* shed a little bit of gas mileage since of a slightly smaller sized spark/less effective burn.
stock space on the sohc is ~.065. I changed out mine plugs recently and gapped them to .050, I havent noticed any type of decrease in mileage or performance.
well the share plugs top top the 3.0 space .042" come .046"... I originally regapped to .032" v the juice, and noticed around a 1mpg loss. (in mine case, more than likely a combination of the small gap and also the enrichment fuel being included to the n2o injection)
ALrighty ya"ll....I gapped them to .065 and also am throwing lock in tonight. And, if I have a poor time v them, I now know just how to pull the inner fenders and also swap the plugs.....semi-easily.

I used the bosch platinum 2"s....as in 2 equipment electrodes through zero gaping required. They space absolutely perfect!
.065 gap, that was the iridium plug and also that turned the end to be to much space for the plug to handle. One more thing was that the reach apparently matched that original Motorcraft plug
.708" but the Motorcraft plug supposedly had an extensive tip and the Autolite does not which i still believe is why castle don"t seem to hold up as proclaimed in post above as they room running cooler. I then put in the Bosch +2"s (4305) and also the van ran great but gas mileage was down. Ns pulled the plugs after ~ a few weeks and the quantity of carbon fouling was unbelievable - only reason the made any kind of sense as soon as again was that they were also cold the a plug. I then ended up through some NGK TR55-IX"s, not correct again. Ultimately NGK TR55-1IX"s, permit me say the the mileage is ago up, power is back up, throttle an answer is an excellent - an extremely impressive so far to to speak the least. It runs great! more than likely should have just got the Motorcraft plugs from the dealer and also called it job looking back. Over there is so much wrong spark plug information on the web for the 4.0L for 01 thru 03 and also even 04 it"s just stupid.
